Suggestopedia
History Suggestopedia
Suggestopedia is the name of a method developed by a bulgarian
Scientist, Georgi Lazanow. Suggestopedia has been used in a number of
bulgarian schools for the teaching a variety of subject even though the
principle area of concerns is teaching foreign language. The proponents of the
method claim that their method works equally well whether or not language
learners spend time on outside study, and gifted and ungifted language
successfully. Lozanov (cited in richards and rodgers,1986:142 and 2001): claims
that memorization in learning by the suggestopedic method will be accelerated
25 times over that in learning by conventional method.
Definisoin
Suggestopedia is a method of teaching in modern
based on comprehension of how the human brain works and how we learn most
effective
PRINCIPLES OF SUGGESTOPEDIA
The first principle
is that people are able to learn at rates many times greater that what we
commonly assume to be the limits of human performance.
The second principle is that learning is global; it involves the entire person.
The third principle is that people learn either consciously or unconscious
processes.
Basic Assumptions about language
Even though lozanov
does not articulate a theory of language, the method emphasizes on memorization
of vocabulary and its native translation (Richards and rodgers, 1986:144 and
2001).
The materials to
teach seem to be texts with its translation, followed by explanations of grammar
of the foreign language (Dorothy,1981.).
Advantages
•
Using music in the learning process will
create a relaxed state.
•
With the atmosphere of a different
class, making students more rilex.
•
To help students focus
more on learning.
Disadvantages
•
For those who can not learn in a noisy
classroom using music is not effective because it would interfere with their
concentration.
•
This method is difficult in practice in
developing countries.
